I found this misunderstanding in a review of Richard Eyre’s new book based on the diary he kept while running the National Theatre
“Another entry relishes a story about John McGrath, the director of the radical agit-prop company 7:84, drawing up at a garage in his Volvo estate: “Attendant asks him what the 7:84 sticker is for. John: ‘7% of the country own 84% of the wealth.’ Attendant: ‘Aye, but there’s no need to flaunt it.’ ”
